NSO Orientation Leader-Summer/Fall 2023
Job Description: Assist in the preparation and successful execution of Summer Welcome and New Student Orientation events. This includes:
- attendance at the April 8th spring training
- attendance during at least one of the five summer orientation sessions
- participation in training events the days leading up to Summer Welcome and New Student Orientation
- participation in Welcome activities for First Year students (August 13-19, 2023)
Candidates are expected to participate in these sessions with a positive energy that will help new students feel welcomed and supported. Additional expectations include; preparing door decorations for your new students, actively participating in teambuilding events and programs; facilitating difficult dialogues in your group; assisting with set up and cleanup of events and participating in assessments and meetings as needed.
Qualifications
The successful FOL will:
- Have a passion for working with a diverse student population social justice
- Enjoy meeting new people and have good communication skills
- Demonstrate initiative and pride in their work and school
- Have a positive attitude and be a great team member
- Have at least a 2.70 cumulative GPA at the end of the fall 2021 semester
- Be enrolled full time at UHSP for Fall 2022 and be in good standing
- Have completed at least 1 semester at UHSP
Responsibilities
- Facilitate first year orientation through the New Student Orientation (August 13-19, 2023)
- Communicate effectively with faculty, staff, and students
- Follow College and Residential community policies
- Participate in training and be present for and engaged in all aspects of the Orientation program
- Provide support and guidance to students and, when appropriate, referral to campus resources
- Assist with other duties as assigned
- Maintain professionalism
- Support and contribute meaningfully to the team and legacy
Work Hours and Compensation
- $12.50/hour!
